A Close-Up of the Lagoon Nebula

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

This close-up from the Hubble Space Telescope shows ribbons of red-glowing gas and dark dust surrounding massive young stars in the Lagoon Nebula. The Lagoon Nebula, also known as M8, is relatively close and bright, appearing larger than the Full Moon and visible without a telescope. Light takes about 5,000 years to reach us from there. This photograph combines exposures taken in red, green, and ultraviolet light.
