This image of the Sun was recorded by the EIT camera onboard the SOHO spacecraft in extreme ultraviolet light. It shows highly ionized Iron atoms, revealing the Sun's dynamic atmosphere. The image was taken just before the Winter Solstice in 1996, marking the lowest point of the Sun in Northern Hemisphere skies.
