COSMIC MESSAGE
The Sun is so bright it usually hides details of its outer atmosphere. This image from the SOHO observatory's LASCO instrument uses an occulting disk to block the Sun's direct light. What remains is a view of the solar wind, a stream of charged particles constantly flowing out from our star. You can also see the faint glow of the Milky Way in the background.
