COSMIC MESSAGE
Aurora often form complete rings around Earth's poles. This "crown," visible in orange near the top of the image, was captured by the orbiting Polar spacecraft. A complete auroral oval is usually difficult to photograph because part of it often occurs over a sunlit area. However, Polar's Earth Camera can filter out all but a specific type of ultraviolet light, allowing this full view.
