COSMIC MESSAGE

David N. Schramm was a pioneering astrophysicist who combined the study of the very big with the very small. He and his colleagues used Big Bang cosmology to predict that there are only three families of elementary particles, a prediction later confirmed by experiments. His work on elemental abundances helped constrain the amount of normal matter in the universe.
