The Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) and the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) are two irregular galaxies visible in Earth's Southern Hemisphere. These are two of the closest galaxies to our Milky Way. Recent observations suggest the LMC, seen on the left, is on a nearly circular orbit around our Galaxy.
