Polaris and the Trail of Comet ZTF

NASA APOD · David Ibarra Gomez
COSMIC MESSAGE

Stars trace concentric arcs around Polaris, the North Celestial Pole, in this three-hour exposure from Spain. On January 31, Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) was near its northernmost point in Earth's sky. This made the comet circumpolar, always above the horizon, for observers at latitudes greater than 10 degrees north. The comet's trail is visible as a faint streak against the star trails.
