Eagle EGGs in M16
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Star-forming regions, known as 'EGGs' or evaporating gaseous globules, are visible at the end of this giant pillar in the Eagle Nebula, M16. These dense regions of molecular hydrogen gas fragment and collapse to form stars. Light from the hottest new stars heats the pillar, causing gas to evaporate and revealing more EGGs and young stars. This picture was taken by the Wide Field and Planetary Camera 2 on the Hubble Space Telescope.
