NASA APOD · O. Staiger
COSMIC MESSAGE
An annular solar eclipse occurred on March 29, 1999, as seen in this image from Malaysia. During an annular eclipse, the Moon passes directly in front of the Sun, but its apparent size is slightly smaller. This leaves a bright ring of sunlight visible around the Moon's silhouette.
