A3827: Galactic Cannibal

Abell 3827 is a galaxy cluster where the central galaxy is actively consuming smaller ones. The remnants of five galaxies are visible, merging into the supergiant at the cluster's core. This image, taken in false color, shows the ongoing process of galactic cannibalism. The light from this distant cluster has traveled for about 1.5 billion years to reach us.
