Dawn of the Leonids

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

The 1998 Leonid meteor shower put on a spectacular display, with many meteors bright enough to be seen as dawn broke. This image, captured near Hong Kong on November 16, shows one such brilliant streaker. While most meteors are fainter, a meteor shower can produce up to 100 meteors per hour, a dramatic increase from the typical 10 per hour on any given night.
