COSMIC MESSAGE
On September 18, 1997, many stargazers watched the Moon pass in front of Saturn. Astronomer Kris Stanek used a 1.2-meter reflector at the Whipple Observatory to get an excellent view. This animated image was constructed from four frames taken at 35-second intervals as the ringed planet emerged from behind the Moon's dark limb. This event, known as a lunar occultation, is a beautiful celestial alignment.
