Lunar Dust and Duct Tape
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
The Moon is dusty because micrometeorite bombardment has blasted its rocky surface over a long history. This creates a layer of powdery lunar soil, or regolith. On Earth, wind and water weather rocks, creating soil and sand. For the Apollo astronauts, this pervasive, fine, gritty dust was a problem. In December 1972, Apollo 17 astronauts Harrison Schmitt and Eugene Cernan used duct tape to clean their spacesuits.
