COSMIC MESSAGE

The sun's corona, its outer atmosphere, is usually hidden by the bright solar disk. During a total solar eclipse, like this one from Mauna Kea in 1991, we can see its intricate streams. Space-based instruments use occulting disks to create artificial eclipses, allowing for constant monitoring of this mysterious region.
