Cometary Globules In Orion

Intense ultraviolet light from massive stars in the Orion region has sculpted dust and gas clouds into distinctive 'Cometary Globules.' This infrared image from IRAS shows these elongated structures, along with the bright Trapezium star cluster. The Witch Head Nebula, IC 2118, is a string of these globules visible near the middle right.
