This is a composite image, taken from Earth orbit, of our Milky Way Galaxy. In near-infrared light, the disk and center of our Galaxy stand out. It gives an appearance similar to seeing our Galaxy from the outside in visible light. The COBE image was reprocessed for higher resolution, showing red stars and dust against the background.
