X-Ray Wind From NGC 3783

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Black holes are known for their immense gravity, but they can also create powerful outflows. This Chandra Observatory X-ray spectrum of NGC 3783 shows a wind of highly ionized atoms. This wind is blowing away from the galaxy's central black hole at a million miles per hour. The intense radiation from matter swirling into the black hole heats and drives this gas.
