Space Laser Creates Artificial Star

COSMIC MESSAGE

Some astronomers use lasers to create artificial stars in the sky. These laser guide stars provide detailed information about the blurring effects of Earth's atmosphere. This allows ground-based telescopes to achieve sharper images, as if they were in space. This technique is especially useful when no bright star is naturally present in the direction where atmospheric information is needed.
