COSMIC MESSAGE

The Horsehead Nebula, a dark cloud of cosmic dust, was a target for the Hubble Space Telescope. This detailed view from Hubble, released for its 11th anniversary, shows the intricate structure of the dust. Below it, a ground-based view from the NOAO 0.9-meter telescope at Kitt Peak shows the Horsehead against a wider expanse of glowing gas. It is a striking example of interstellar dust and gas.
