The Ring Nebula, M57, is a famous planetary nebula. Its graceful, ring-like appearance is due to our perspective, looking straight into what is actually a barrel-shaped cloud of gas. This gas was shed by a dying central star. The Hubble Space Telescope captured this sharp image, using natural colors to show temperature differences.
