NGC 1977: Blue Reflection Nebula in Orion

NASA APOD · AAO
COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 1977 is a blue reflection nebula within the larger Orion Nebula. This region primarily reflects light from nearby bright stars in Orion. It appears blue because blue light scatters more efficiently off the nebula's gas than red light. The dark lanes are made of interstellar dust, fine needle-shaped carbon grains.
