M16: Stars from Eagle's EGGs
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Newborn stars are forming in the Eagle Nebula, also known as M16. This image from the Hubble Space Telescope shows evaporating gaseous globules, or EGGs, emerging from dense pillars of gas and dust. These pillars are light-years long, and their interiors are so dense that gas contracts to form new stars. Intense radiation from bright young stars erodes the less dense material around the EGGs, revealing these stellar nurseries.
