Mariner's Mercury

Mercury, the planet closest to the Sun, remains largely a mystery due to the Sun's glare. Mariner 10 was the only spacecraft to explore Mercury up close, making three flybys in 1974 and 1975. It surveyed about 45 percent of the surface, photographing the sunlit hemisphere during each approach. The mission used clever maneuvers to capture images from different angles.
