Saturn: Lord of the Rings

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Galileo was born on this date in 1564, and in 1610, he became the first person to observe Saturn's rings through a telescope. Nearly 400 years later, Saturn's rings remain one of the most stunning sights in astronomy. They are about 250,000 kilometers wide but only a few tens of meters thick in places. Modern astronomers estimate the rings are perhaps only a hundred million years old.
