Water-Ice Imaged in Martian Polar Cap
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Water exists on Mars, but only as ice in the North Polar Cap. Views of this ice are often obscured by darkness in winter and clouds in summer. Last April, the Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft captured a clear image of the water-bearing cap just before Martian spring. Low, dark layers in the image are thought to contain a large amount of water ice.
