NGC 3603 is the largest region of glowing gas in our Milky Way galaxy, spanning over 20 light-years across. Captured in infrared light by a 2MASS telescope, it contains a massive star cluster and thick dust pillars. The young stars in the cluster, about a million years old, heat the region's hydrogen gas.
