COSMIC MESSAGE
The night of August 11 and 12, earlier this week, was unusual over central Germany. Perseid meteors streaked across the dark sky as bits from Comet Swift-Tuttle crashed into Earth's atmosphere. Even more unusually, the sky glowed purple due to aurora caused by a solar particle explosion days before. This auroral storm was a rare sight for the region.
