The Voyagers' Message in a Bottle

Twenty-five years after their launch, the Voyager 1 and 2 spacecraft are now billions of kilometers from the Sun. They are the third and fourth human-made objects to leave our solar system, following Pioneer 10 and 11. Each Voyager carries a gold-plated copper record, a message in a bottle for any extraterrestrial intelligence that might find it. These spacecraft continue to send back data as they explore the heliosphere's outer reaches.
