NGC 7027: The Pillow Planetary Nebula

NGC 7027, also known as the Pillow Nebula or Flying Carpet Nebula, is one of the smallest, brightest, and most unusually shaped planetary nebulae known. Its expansion rate suggests it began expanding about 600 years ago. For much of its history, it expelled shells, seen in blue in this Hubble Space Telescope image. More recently, it began ejecting material in a new way, for reasons still unknown.
