HESS Gamma-Ray Telescope

COSMIC MESSAGE
The HESS Gamma-Ray Telescope is designed to detect extreme gamma rays, photons with over 100 billion times the energy of visible light. Unlike most telescopes, it relies on Earth's atmosphere to function. When gamma rays hit the upper atmosphere, they produce showers of high-energy particles. The telescope, with its 382 mirrors, detects the faint blue light from these showers.
