CG4: A Ruptured Cometary Globule

NASA APOD · Anglo-Australian Observatory
COSMIC MESSAGE

This image shows a ruptured cometary globule, a gas cloud with a dusty head and an elongated tail. These globules resemble comets but are very different. They are often star-forming regions, with young stars found in their heads. The reason for the rupture in this particular globule's head is still being studied.
