The Cocoon Nebula, IC 5146, is 4,000 light years away in Cygnus. It is a stellar nursery, a place where an open cluster of stars is forming. This nebula is simultaneously an emission, reflection, and absorption nebula. The massive star at its center likely opened a hole in the surrounding gas and dust.
