A Magellanic Starfield

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

This Hubble Space Telescope image shows a dense starfield in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy to our own. Over 10,000 individual stars are visible here, mostly giant stars. The Large Magellanic Cloud is about 170,000 light-years from us. If our Sun were at that distance, it would be almost impossible to see.
