Anticrepuscular Rays Over Horseshoe Canyon

NASA APOD · Peggy Peterson
COSMIC MESSAGE

These are anticrepuscular rays, a phenomenon caused by the setting Sun and well-placed clouds. While sunlight travels in straight lines, the projections of these lines onto the spherical sky are great circles. This causes the rays to appear to converge opposite the Sun, even though they are parallel.
