This image shows the shadow of Phobos, one of Mars's moons, cast upon the Martian surface. Phobos is much smaller than Earth's Moon and orbits Mars very closely. Its shadow briefly darkens a spot on Mars as it passes, a phenomenon observed by orbiting spacecraft.
