COSMIC MESSAGE
This is a light echo from the star V838 Monocerotis, which suddenly brightened in 2002. The star became the brightest in the Milky Way, then faded just as quickly. Unlike a supernova, V838 Mon did not expel material, but its light illuminates the surrounding dust.
