A spectacular bridge of stars and gas stretches for nearly 250,000 light-years between these two galaxies, cataloged as Arp 295. This cosmic bridge and the long tail below the galaxies are evidence of a past close encounter. The mutual gravity of the galaxies created these dramatic plumes of stellar material.
