NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

Comet Halley, famous for its 1986 passage, was photographed in 2003 while over 4 billion kilometers from the Sun. This image shows the comet as a tiny cluster of pixels, a record distance for a comet observation at the time. At this distance, almost as far as Neptune, the comet is extremely cold and inactive. It will not return to the inner solar system until 2061.
