COSMIC MESSAGE

This image shows an intermediate polar binary system, where a white dwarf star with a strong magnetic field interacts with a companion star. Material from the companion star forms an accretion disk around the white dwarf, but the magnetic field diverts the inner part of the disk, channeling gas onto the white dwarf's magnetic poles.
