This is one of the first microscopic images of another planet, taken by the Opportunity rover on Mars. The image shows a patch of soil about 3 centimeters across, resembling pebbles on a sandy beach. Opportunity captured this detailed view on its tenth sol on the Martian surface at Meridiani Planum.
