COSMIC MESSAGE

V838 Monocerotis is a variable star about 20,000 light-years away at the edge of our Milky Way. In 2002, it had a sudden outburst, and its light is now echoing across surrounding dust shells. This creates dramatic changes in its appearance, as seen in this image captured by the Hubble Space Telescope.
