N49's Cosmic Blast

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

N49, a supernova remnant in the Large Magellanic Cloud, glows with scattered debris from a cosmic explosion. These filaments of shocked gas span about 30 light-years. Light from the original explosion reached Earth thousands of years ago, but N49 also marks the site of a recent, extremely intense gamma-ray burst, detected by satellites.
