C153 Takes the Plunge
NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE
Galaxy C153 is plunging through galaxy cluster Abell 2125 at nearly 8 million kilometers per hour. This creates a comet-like tail of glowing gas, 200,000 light-years long. C153, once possibly a spiral galaxy like the Milky Way, is being stripped of its gas as it moves through the hot intracluster medium. This series of images uses X-ray and optical data to show the galaxy's fate.
