Inside the Eagle Nebula

NASA APOD · T. A. Rector
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Eagle Nebula, a star-forming region 7,000 light-years away in Serpens, is a vast cloud of gas and dust. This image from the Hubble Space Telescope shows pillars of cold gas and dust, sites where new stars are still forming. The bright blue stars already visible are burning off the surrounding gas with their intense light and winds.
