COSMIC MESSAGE

Light from a star that exploded in 1181, about ten thousand light-years away, created the supernova remnant 3C58. This false-color X-ray image shows the region powered by a rapidly spinning neutron star. This cosmic dynamo, more massive than the Sun, accelerates particles to extreme energies. These particles form the jets, rings, and loop structures seen in the image.
