Orion's Horsehead Nebula

NASA APOD · Adam Block
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Horsehead Nebula, a dark cloud of dust, stands out against a glowing background of hydrogen gas. This region is part of a larger star-forming complex in the constellation Orion. The bright star to the left is Alnitak, one of the stars in Orion's belt. This cosmic cloud has assumed a recognizable shape, much like clouds in Earth's atmosphere.
