COSMIC MESSAGE
The Fox Fur Nebula, just below the bright star S Monocerotis, gets its name from its color and texture. This region in Monoceros is filled with dark dust and glowing gas. The blue glow around S Mon results from dust reflecting the star's light. These shapes originate from fine interstellar dust interacting with the energetic light and hot gas from young stars.
