The Earth, the Sun, the Milky Way, and our Local Group of galaxies are all moving together. This movement is relative to the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation, the afterglow of the Big Bang. The side of the sky we're moving towards appears slightly hotter, and the side we're moving away from appears cooler. This dipole pattern, captured in this all-sky map, tells us about our cosmic velocity.
