NASA APOD · Don Goldman
COSMIC MESSAGE

The Medusa Nebula, also known as Abell 21, is a planetary nebula about 1,500 light-years away in Gemini. Its braided, serpentine filaments of glowing gas are what remain of a low-mass star in its final stages. The star is transforming from a red giant into a hot white dwarf, shedding its outer layers into space.
