Planetary Nebula NGC 2818

NASA APOD
COSMIC MESSAGE

NGC 2818 is a planetary nebula, the expanding gaseous shell of a dying star similar to our Sun. It offers a glimpse into our Sun's distant future, after it has exhausted its nuclear fuel. Curiously, NGC 2818 appears to be located within an open star cluster, NGC 2818A, about 10,000 light-years away in the constellation Pyxis. At that distance, the nebula itself spans about 4 light-years.
